An Aerial View of Fracking: Pennsylvania

Published on Jul 27, 2012 Peter Saltonstall, a landowner in the Finger Lakes region of NY, takes us on a flyover of natural gas drilling sites in Pennsylvania. We show the scope and scale of hydrofracking in Pennsylvania. Gas pads, pipelines, and road construction are common sites in the rural landscape. Saltonstall considers the potential for job creation, energy independence, and tax gains, while showing the environmental impact of hydrofracking. This video will spark curiosity and inform viewers on both sides of the debate.

What's It Like To Live Near a Frac Sand Mine

Residents of Maiden Rock, WI describe what it's like to live next to a giant industrial sand mine that operates 24/7, producing sand for hydraulic fracturing, aka: 'fracking'.

Frac Sand

FRAC SAND is used as a 'proppant' to hold open fractured Marcellus shale so the natural gas can easily escape, but in this video we see huge clouds of silica sand dust going everywhere except downhole!

Video location: Near West Middletown / Avella, PA GPS: 40.22624 -80.44734 TEMPLE, JONATHAN UNIT Independence Twp, Washington County, Pa.

What is the risk to workers and nearby residents?

SILICOSIS: Silicosis, (previously miner's phthisis, grinder's asthma, potter's rot and other occupation-related names) is a form of occupational lung disease caused by inhalation of crystalline silica dust, and is marked by inflammation and scarring in forms of nodular lesions in the upper lobes of the lungs. It is a type of pneumoconiosis. Silicosis (particularly the acute form) is characterized by shortness of breath, cough, fever, and cyanosis (bluish skin). It may often be misdiagnosed as pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs), pneumonia, or tuberculosis. SOURCE: Wikipedia

Hydrofracking: The List of the Harmed

Sometimes words fail. This short video speaks volumes- in silence, except for the beautiful music. So many people have been harmed by natural gas drilling. Why does the harm continue? We must ban horizontal slickwater hydrofracking.

George Feighner of New Jersey: "I cry for my trees..."

Published on Feb 17, 2013 George Feighner, wept today (2/16) as 70-year old white pines were clearcut less than 100 feet from his front door by pipeline contractors who started cutting yesterday morning after receiving a Notice to Proceed from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Thursday (2/4). George is an 86-year old man in Montague, NJ living just off the banks of the Delaware River, and had his 60-acre property condemned for eminent domain to be the path of the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Loop 323. The upgraded pipeline will transport Marcellus Shale gas to Mahwah, NJ giving enormous incentives for the industry to fully develop the shale and build new natural gas power plants, including the one proposed in Newark, NJ. George has been involved in a legal appeal for over a year of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's decision. FERC members have all been appointed or re-appointed by Barack Obama who spoke in favor of "cutting the red tape for oil and gas permits" during his State of the Union. Obama holds the power to order his Army Corps of Engineers representative on the Delaware River Basin Commission to stop this project and put it under further review and has yet to act, as well as Governor Andrew Cuomo, Governor Jack Markell, Governor Chris Christie, and Governor Tom Corbett. Tennessee Gas Pipeline company is itself a subsidiary of El Paso, which is a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan of Tar Sands oil pipeline fame. Check out our website for actions you can take to support our struggle to stop the Tennessee Pipeline, even if you can't be with us here in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. www.notennesseepipeline.blogspot.com By: Stop the Tennessee Gas Pipeline

Our Island Home: Worth Dying For

This is a non-commercial attempt from http://www.sanctuaryasia.com/ and https://www.facebook.com/sanctuaryasi..., to highlight the fact that world leaders, irresponsible corporates and mindless 'consumers' are combining to destroy life on earth. It is dedicated to all who died fighting for the planet and those whose lives are on the line today. The cut was put together by Vivek Chauhan, a young film maker, together with naturalists working with the Sanctuary Asia network (http://www.sanctuaryasia.com/).

Content credit: The principal source for the footage was Yann Arthus-Bertrand's incredible film HOME http://www.homethemovie.org/. The music was by Armand Amar. Thank you too Greenpeace and http://timescapes.org/

Gas Drilling: Worker Safety

Chilling, important short film upcoming from Josh Fox, on worker safety in the gas fields. Please watch and share the trailer, here. Josh Fox says, "Senator Tony Avella of NY has taken up their cause, drafting a worker safety bill for New York that will serve as a template for workers in the oil and gas fields across the US. ... Negligence on sites and unsafe working conditions including risk of chemical exposure cannot be acceptable by our governments that are touting a jobs boom in the gas fields any longer."

Marcellus Gas Drilling: The Mannings Tell Their Story

In less than 10 minutes, this video shines a light on the Mannings in Pennsylvania whose water is ruined. Listen to how their life has changed since hydrofracking began near their home. How much help have they gotten from the DEP or the gas company?

Home Rule in Avon, NY: Anti-fracking Rally

Photo: Michael Johnson
Livingston County News

It was a cold, cold day in Geneseo, NY, on Monday.  Frigid cold.  We couldn't feel our fingers and toes after a while. But it was worth every minute to show our support for the Town of Avon and its decision to put a moratorium on fracking. We are awaiting the judge's decision.  Stay tuned.

Max Chilson's Water Well Went Bad: French Azilum, PA

Max Chilson, eighty years old, living in French Azilum and surrounded by gas wells, cannot use his water any longer. It went bad in 2010- black solids turned up. The PA DEP and the gas company Chief Oil and Gas do not know what is in this black stuff. Public officials, including Gene Yaw, Tina Pickett, and the three Bradford County Commissioners, have been no help. Chilson has given up on them. He spends a lot of time trying to get good water to live. He's got a bad back and a bad knee. It's hard to get around. He doesn't trust his water to cook with or do laundry. Max Chilson lives just up the hill from my family farm we call "Hutchinson Camp." We use a spring for our water source. But Chilson's water and our water come from the same watershed, the same aquifer. I conclude that our water is also polluted. We only go there in the summer. I wonder if our water has been tested recently.
