This is at the Press Conference in Days Inn, Schoharie, NY; by a group of organizations concerned about the latest, 30" gas pipeline coming through NY and the group of additional gas compressor stations along the route; Open House followed this by the Kinder Morgan Pipeline Company with their reps...Mohawk Nation Natives of NY attended and in the background. Like Josh says , we don't need this gas and we can be 100% independent using non-fossil fuels alternatives...

Sustainable Energy: Microgrid at Rocky Mountain Institute

The UCSD Microgrid - Showing the Future of Electricity

Rocky Mountain Institute visited the University of California, San Diego to study and document the "microgrid" that controls and integrates electricity supply and demand on the campus. UCSD's microgrid is one of the best examples of an electricity network that provides local control yet is interconnected with the larger electricity grid. At UCSD, the microgrid provides the ability to manage 42 megawatts of generating capacity, including a central cogeneration plant, an array of solar photovoltaic installations and a fuel cell that operates on natural gas reclaimed from a landfill site. The central microgrid control allows operators to manage the diverse portfolio of energy generation and storage resources on the campus to minimize costs. In addition, the campus can "island" from the larger grid to maintain power supply in an emergency, as in the case of the power blackout that struck parts of Southern California, Arizona and Mexico in September 2011. The microgrid at UCSD provides a living laboratory to experiment with integration and management of local resources and to optimize the use of these resources in interaction with market signals from the larger grid. New Power Plant Fueled By Natural Gas: Asylum Township, PA

One of the latest developments in the on-going "progress" associated with the natural gas industry- a power plant fueled by natural gas- is planned for a location in Asylum Township on Route 187 just outside of Wysox and not far from Wyalusing which is across the Susquehanna River.  Groundbreaking ceremony will be in May.  At a time when we should be looking toward sustainable sources of energy,  the corporate powers continue to pursue the wrong avenues for energy development, thus contaminating our planet more and more for the monetary profits, nothing more.

I have seen a few pictures of such facilities, and they all look like monstrocities.  This plant in Asylum Township is being built in a former corn field, or something akin to it.  I imagine the former owner of the land made quite a bundle on the sale.  But in the long run, I don't think the effects will be good.

Northrup provides a lot of great information, including graphs showing what will happen in the near future if we continue to use fossil fuels or if we go to sustainables.

Ten Reasons Why Fracking Is Doomed

"Proponents of natural gas fracturing and oil drilling are delirious with joy over the ability to recover shale gas, which has brought down world gas prices and made the US a major player again. Likewise, North Dakota wells are set to produce up to 800,000 barrels of oil a day soon. (Although, since the world uses roughly 89 million barrels a day, and the US uses a fifth of that, and demand in Asia will likely spike in coming years, the ND addition is just not that much).

Fracking is dangerous to ground water purity, and both oil and gas, as hydrocarbons, contribute to global climate change, which is a dire threat to human well-being in coming decades and centuries.
But oil and gas triumphalists have another think coming. It is that the cost of generating electricity by wind and solar is falling rapidly. However hard they try to suppress government funding and tax breaks for renewables, Big Oil and Big Gas are doomed to lose, and in only about 4 years."
