Hydrofracking: Rochester, NY, Forum, October 2011

This is the quick way to look at the Rochester forum held at Temple B'rith Kodesh, October 23, 2011. You can click on selected portions of the forum for easy viewing as time permits. This was an excellent forum, full of information we all need. Time is of the essence, friends. The NY DEC is in the process of deciding our future. Will high-volume, slick water horizontal hydrofracking be allowed in New York State? Permitting may commence as soon as early 2012.

For help in writing your letter to the NY DEC, click here.  The public comment period has begun and will continue through December 12, 2011.  I am working on my comment, and I encourage everyone to submit something, too.  We are encouraged to address only one issue.  So pick the one you are most concerned about.

    You should spend some time researching drilling and earthquakes.

    You can easily track Earthquakes through RSS feed here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/catalogs/

    Or just review the site here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/

    You will see a pattern in non-Earthquake prone areas. Drilling has already been found to be the issue in UK:

    I was so annoyed that the guy that introduced things and moderated questions took up so much time.Bug out, buddy, with your oh-so-clever nonsense and let us hear the experts. Otherwise, very informative. How do you choose just one issue? That's a tall order!

    I have to admit that I got impatient, too. The moderator did take up precious time. I was not in the mood for poetry and philisophical issues. He is an esteemed person, so I don't want to criticize too harshly. And the whole event was sponsored by the Jewish Temple, so there was a religious aspect to it.

    Choosing one issue is a challenge I agree! I haven't written my letter yet for that very reason! I have heard that the DEC has received only about 2500 letters, so many more are needed.
