A gas well emergency is underway in LeRoy Township near Canton, PA, at this hour. Thousands and thousands of gallons of fracking fluid have been spilled due to a blowout. The fluid has contaminated Towanda Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River.
We must stop gas drilling unless we don't mind this happening many times more in the future. A contaminated creek cannot be saved. Damage done. Reports are that the creek was stocked with trout April 5th.

Well, so much for Earth Day. I wish the evacuated families the very best. I hope they can return safely home soon.
ReplyDeleteget your facts straight...no contamination or fish kill
ReplyDeleteAll u tree huggers when u pump gas and any drips in the ground guess where it goes when it rains is any one tryin to shut down dandy mini mart or sunoco.
ReplyDeleteSorry angry person before me.... the fact is that the tests of the water are not ready yet. so we do not know if there is contamination or not yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you are so sure I invite you to go there and drink the water right out of the creek.
We don't know about the contamination or the harm to the fish yet. However, I think it is safe to say that Towanda Creek was contaminated. That cannot be undone. It was just announced that Chesapeake Energy has suspended hydrofracking in PA until the cause of this accident is determined. I think that tells us something about the significance of this spill.
ReplyDeleteokie gal!
ReplyDeleteim all for safety in the enviornment. But accidents happen im am sure Chesapeake wil take care of this misfortune!Everyone who wants to ban hydrofracking probabally doesn't want to ban all the money that is being brought in from these companies. That is helping the economy around Towanda!! The people who rent these workers houses the resturants and stores they do business with and the people who leased thier land to them in the first place!!!!Bet their still cashing those checks!!!
Heather- thanks for your post. I am happy for people who are making a lot of money from the gas industry. However, our water is the biggest concern, and once that is ruined, there won't be too many restaurants, motels, or any thing or anyone else left unless they can all live without water. Herein lies the wrinkle, don't you agree? People do assume that I will take the money and not worry about the environmental destruction, but I guess I am one of those strange birds who really would forego money if it could save the area and keep it good for our children and grandchildren. I don't have a lease, and I am not getting any money even remotely related to the gas industry. And I never would accept that. It may seem strange, but it is the gospel truth.
