In 1930, my greatgrandparents purchased a beautiful farm in Bradford County, PA, in a little hamlet called French Azilum. In the summer, we spent time there, resting, breathing in the fresh air, enjoying the wild flowers, the bright stars and planets on a clear moonlit night, and swimming in the Susquehanna River. If gas drilling is allowed to continue, Bradford County and all of Pennsylvania will be forever changed, ruined beyond repair.

Marcellus Shale Reality Tour: Bradford County, PA
This 40-minute film shows a group of 15 citizens from Luzerne County, PA, including some public office holders, as they traveled by bus to Bradford County, PA, to see firsthand the drilling operations in all its stages, including compressor stations and pipelines. Compelling testimony from land owners who have been severely impacted by the gas drilling industry.
The film project was done by GDAC. (Gas Drilling Awareness Coalition) Check out their website.

Thank You for posting this.
It was very clear to me that the canoe trip guy cherished the French Azilum valley for its quiet beauty. The fact that he may leave the area soon because of the noise and danger of the trucks, methane leaking up in the river, and the gas wells and industrialization of the area speaks volumes. If the gas industry is in its infancy in PA, what is the area going to look, sound, smell, and taste like when it's in full production? He doesn't seem to want to be around for that and the fishermen he has seen for years aren't coming there anymore. It seems like gas drilling is now TAKING AWAY peoples' livelihoods.
The other thing that got me was the arrogance of the gas companies. You KNOW they could get a permit for that wastewater plant- no problem- but they just don't think they have to bother to do it.
Is it true that the French Azilum overlook is no more????? Did I hear correctly?
Virginia
Virginia-
The overlook at Marie Antoinette on Route 6 not only is still there, but was recently renovated/restored. It had fallen into disrepair. It looks good again.

Thanks Peacegirl, I must have misunderstood what he said. I haven't been back in a year now, and am almost afraid to go.
Virginia
Virginia- I think the man (from the outfitters in Sugar Run) was saying that the view from the overlook was disturbing now because you look down on a huge well pad (the Kerrick site) and other well pads which are sometimes hidden by trees unless there are rigs up and running. It will only get worse as time goes on.
